Why Choose Chemical Engineering?

The School of Chemical Engineering is a foundation school of The University of New South Wales and celebrated 60 years of excellence and achievement in 2009. It is a school of the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW, the largest engineering faculty in Australia that is consistently ranked as one of the best.

The School is accredited by professional bodies; Engineers Australia, Institution of Chemical Engineers, and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Which helps establish our position in industry as a provider of high level graduates who are well sought after.

We pride ourselves on the ability to attract top, internationally recognised academic staff and researchers who bring years of industry experience to the classroom.

What is chemical Engineering?

Chemical Engineering is one of the most broad and flexible engineering degrees available. Chemical Engineering is essentially the process of turning raw materials into useful and commercial products. This involves the research of raw materials and their properties, design and development of equipment and the evaluation of operating processes.

Students who graduate from Chemical Engineering at UNSW have numerous career options in a vast range of industries available to them, including: water treatment and management; food process, environmental management, energy and petrochemical industries. There are also increased opportunities in research and development; government regulatory and health authorities, management, consulting and financial industries.

WHAT IS industrial chemistry?

Industrial chemists work to optimise complex chemical processes and are often solving problems at the cutting edge of environmental management in industry and essential services such as water delivery and pollution treatment.

UNSW is one of only a handful of Australian universities that offer this specialised program, and as such, Industrial Chemistry graduates are in high demand. Career opportunities include research and development for new manufacturing processes or environmental treatment. Industrial chemists are also working to improve efficiency in fields such as petrochemicals and energy production.
