Mailing Lists

The School of Chemical Engineering Staff mailing list, chemeng-staff@explode.unsw.edu.au, utilises Majordomo. Majordomo is a program that enables users to subscribe and unsubscribe to the list using simple commands in emails sent to Majordomo.

The Chemical Engineering Staff mailing list requires the list administrator to authorise subscription requests (allowing people to join the list). It is maintained by the administrator of this list:
owner-chemeng-staff@explode.unsw.edu.au

The Chemical Engineering Staff mailing list is a restricted list, where posting messages to the list is restricted to members of this list only. By only allowing postings from list members (ie people already subscribed to the list), this will deter spammers from spamming the entire mailing list.

Subscribing to Chemical Engineering Staff mailing List

To subscribe to the Chemical Engineering Staff mailing list, send an email to the Majordomo list manager as follows:

  1. create a new email message
  2. in the To: field enter [[email: majordomo@explode.unsw.edu.au|majordomo@explode.unsw.edu.au]]
  3. leave the Subject field blank
  4. In the body of the message type subscribe chemeng-staff

To send an email to the Chemical Engineering Staff Mailing List

To send an email to all the subscribers of the Chemical Engineering Staff Mailing List:

  1. create a new email message
  2. in the To: field enter //chemeng-staff@explode.unsw.edu.au//
  3. 3. Compose the rest of the message as you would a normal email.

Take care when posting to lists
Emails you send to a list are sent to all members of the list, so take care how you compose your messages. If you are replying to an email sent to the list, look at who your reply is going to. Is your reply going to just the sender, or is it going to the whole list? This may influence how you word your response. Don't automatically assume you are just responding to one sender.

DO NOT SEND SUBSCRIBE COMMANDS TO THIS ADDRESS, everyone will receive your unsuccessful subscribe attempt and will not be pleased. Please ensure you make good use of the subject field so that users can instantly see what the email message is all about.

Unsubscribing from Chemical Engineering Staff Mailing List

To unsubscribe from the Chemical Engineering Staff Mailing List, send an email to the Majordomo list manager as follows:

  1. create a new email message
  2. in the To: field enter [[email: majordomo@explode.unsw.edu.au|majordomo@explode.unsw.edu.au]]
  3. leave the Subject field blank
  4. In the body of the message type unsubscribe chemeng-staff
